iInertia
iInertia is Available now at the iPhone AppStore Click Here to Open iTunes! Attention all engineering students in "Mechanics of Materials" or Strength of Materials"! iInertia is for you! iInertia calculates the location of the centroid and the Moments of Inertia, Ix and Iy, about the centroid for a composite shape. This is a great help for dealing with bending of oddly cross-sectioned beams. Even practicing engineers will find it useful. You can calculate the centroid and Moments of Inertia of any composite area that can be made up of rectangles, circles, and triangles, as either solid or void areas. There is a full tutorial on how to use iInertia right here. iInertia calculates what engineers typically call the "Moment of Inertia" as used in a Mechanics of Materials (or Strength of Materials) class. It is used, for example, in calculating the stress in a beam due to bending. Mathematicians call the same quantity, the "second moment of the area." There is also a "mass moment of inertia," which is used in dynamics. iInertia does not calculate this.
